Site Advisor McAfee's Site Advisor is a very handy additional layer of protection when you're surfing the Web. It tests websites to make sure they're not doing anything sneaky behind the scenes and warns you about bad sites in Google and Yahoo! search results. It comes in free and paid versions.

Snopes.com Snopes.com is the definitive Internet reference source for urban legends, folklore, myths, rumors, and misinformation. When people send you emails claiming that Bill Gates will pay you to send email, that Andy Rooney went off on a tirade, or whatever, check it out on Snopes.com (especially before sending it on to other people).

Gibson Research Corporation This site is home to Gibson Research Corporation. They do a ton of great work in computer and network security, but the service that you're probably most interested in is their "Shields Up" firewall testing service. Some of their stuff is very technical, but Shields Up is a little more down-to-earth.
