It’s no longer enough to master technical skills for a successful career in IT. In addition to being a master of technology, IT people today must also be customer service masters. They understand the importance of serving customers and coworkers with compassion, empathy, good listening skills, and respect.

This video covers the four traits IT people must use, in addition to outstanding technical skills, to be customer service masters.

It’s based on my book The Compassionate Geek: Mastering Customer Service for IT Professionals.

Update: I have updated this information to reflect five principles, which include the four traits mentioned in this video, along with the principle of competence. Here’s a link to an updated post from 2015.
